Last week, Miss Wood and Mrs. Gidge's A and B Day classes celebrated the sap that we collected from our maple tree with a maple syrup and pancake picnic.
Over the weekend, Miss Wood took the sap home and "boiled" it for hours and hours. Once enough water evaporated, leaving sweet syrup, it was strained through a cheesecloth "hat" to remove any sand or debris that may have gathered while the sap was running.
Miss Kennedy helped by making pancakes for everyone to enjoy with their syrup. Students gathered around our maple tree for a syrup and pancake picnic and gave thanks to the tree for providing us with such a delicious treat.
