For the Birds

Both A and B Day classes have shown an interest in birds over the past couple of weeks. We started an inquiry, listing what the students wanted to learn about birds. So far, we have listened to a variety of bird calls on the iPad and tried to hear the same ones outside, made bird feeders and examined bird feed. Both classes have also created birds of their own.

Using a variety of materials, students also created birds of their own.

One B Day student, Niya, shared a time when she got to feed chickadees from her hand. We often see chickadees at our feeders so she asked if she was allowed to try to feed the birds from her hand. A number of students thought it was an exciting thing to try, so Miss Kennedy took the students outside to try to feed the birds. With bird feed in their hands, students whistled to try to attract the birds. Two landed in the tree, but weren't brave enough to eat from the students.
