The students have been busy building ramps of all types and sizes this past week.
Starting with a basic tube to shoot cars down, the ramps have evolved into quite complex structures. Blocks are the current building material of choice. Using both solid and open-face blocks, ramps now include bridges to go under and obstacles to clear. We have also seen some ramps that are weighted down at the start and freestanding at the end. When asked why the ramps are all on angles, Owen said they "need to be like that so the cars can go down".
While building ramps is a lot of fun, students are showing an awareness of the built environment, using technological problem-solving skills, in free exploration and guided activity. These skills are included in three of the four Overall Expectations from the Science and Technology curriculum.
