Transformer Salon

The most exciting thing in Room 106 right now is our Hair Salon "Transformer".

Ms. de Vries and I noticed that students were improvising with classroom materials (toy drill, screwdrivers, etc.) to "style" each other's hair and pretending to do nails and makeup. Following the lead of the students, we suggested that we change the woodworking area into a hair dresser. The first step was to brainstorm a list of things you would find at a hairdresser/salon. We were surprised with some of the items students came up with.

From there, we talked about what we could use in the class as things on our list. We gathered play dough scissors (scissors), paper tubes (curlers), drill (blow dryer), and blocks (comb) to name a few items.

The Salon was very popular! There was a line up of students waiting to have their hair done.

We realized that our Salon didn't have a name so we called the students to the carpet to try to come up with a name. We took suggestions and had a vote on which name to choose. After going through the options, Transformer had the most votes!

A number of students felt that along with hair cuts and styles, Transformer should do nails and makeup as well. Mrs. White has offered to come in and help in the spa so on Tuesday morning, Transformer will be open for business!
